Graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with honors in 1997. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for medical school and graduated with distinction in 2005. He was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, which is the highest academic honor in medical school.
Dr. Merritt completed his dermatology residency in Chapel Hill in 2009.
Dr. Merritt has trained under the direction of Drs John Zitelli and David Brodland in a Mohs Surgery, Cutaneous Oncology, and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship. The training is officially approved by the American College of Mohs Surgery and the AMA's Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Merritt has authored several articles on skin cancer, dermatologic surgery and therapy. He is also a prefessional jazz musician.
Dr. Merritt is a board-certified dermatologist. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
